Ernakulam District was formed on 1 April 1958, from the taluks of Aluva, Kunnathunadu, Kochi, Kanayannur, and Paravoor, which were formerly part of Thrissur District. Initially the district headquarters was at Ernakulam, which gave the district its name the headquarters was later shifted to Kakkanad. The word/name Ernakulam is derived from a Tamil word Erayanarkulam which means abode of Lord Shiva. Ernakulam district is situated almost at the middle of Kerala State and on the coast of the Arabian Sea. It is also the most industrially advanced and flourishing District of Kerala.

KAKKOOR KALAVAYAL : Kakkoor famous for the Kalavayal is a village in Thirumarady panchayath. Kakkoor is the venue for the renowned maramadi race – the bull racing competition known as Kakkoor Kalavayal. Period: February-March
COCHIN CARNIVAL : Cochin Carnival is a carnival held every year in the last week of December at Fort Kochi in the city of Kochi, Kerala. This carnival is held mostly during the last two weeks of December and finally ends on 1 January. Period: December
INDIRA GANDHI BOAT RACE : Indira Gandhi Boat Race happens to be very colorful water sport-cum-festival held every year. It is organized during the last week of December in the backwaters of the Cochin city of Kerala. Period: December
ALUVA SIVARATHRI : Sivarathri celebrated in Aluva , a place in Ernakulam district , south India is called the Aluva Sivarathri festival. The Malayalam calendar month of Kumbham is noted for the Sivarathri festival which falls in February – March. Period: February – March
CHANDANAKUDAM FESTIVAL : chandanakkudam ritual is a procession with hundreds of pilgrims carrying earthen pots, smeared with sandal paste and filled with coins is something to feed your cultural curiosity. Taking place at the Kanjiramattom mosque. Period: January
